Flutter to cut up to 1,400 UK & Ireland jobs as gambling taxes rise
Flutter, owner of Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet, confirmed on 20 October that up to 1,400 roles in its UK & Ireland business will go, with Leeds, Dublin and the Porto and Cluj-Napoca hubs affected. It is part of the plan to absorb the higher UK duties — online casino at 40% since April 2026, remote betting at 25% from April 2027 — which Flutter puts at a net hit of $235m to 2026 EBITDA and $339m to 2027. The plan is still subject to staff consultation, and the group has also said up to 100 Paddy Power shops could close.
